Why it matters now
The final chapter of Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Verse trilogy, finishing the story Across the Spider-Verse left on a cliffhanger.
About Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse
Beyond the Spider-Verse is the third and final film in Sony's animated Spider-Verse trilogy, and it starts immediately after the cliffhanger ending of Across the Spider-Verse, with Miles in deep trouble and the Spot threatening his home universe and his family. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have called it a massive finale that wraps up Miles's story.
Bob Persichetti, a co-director of the first film, and Justin K. Thompson direct, with Lord, Miller and David Callaham writing and Daniel Pemberton returning to score. Shameik Moore leads the voice cast again alongside Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Oscar Isaac, Daniel Kaluuya, Jason Schwartzman, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Vélez and Jharrel Jerome in a role introduced at the end of Across. Sony is releasing it on June 18, 2027, as its first animated film in IMAX and premium large formats. As of October 2026, Lord and Miller say it is on schedule.

How to watch it
Watch Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and Across the Spider-Verse (2023) first. This film picks up the second Across ends, so that cliffhanger needs to be fresh in your mind; a rewatch of Across right before release is the best prep. It sits outside the MCU, so no other Marvel homework is needed. Anyone invested in Miles's story will want to catch it on the biggest screen possible, given the IMAX release.
