Spider-Man’s film history is split between studios. Sony owns the film rights, so the character has had three separate live-action runs: Sam Raimi’s trilogy with Tobey Maguire (2002–2007), Marc Webb’s two Amazing Spider-Man films with Andrew Garfield (2012–2014), and the MCU films with Tom Holland, made by Marvel Studios under a deal with Sony.

For years those were separate continuities. Then Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) opened up the multiverse, which is why the older films now matter to anyone following the MCU. Tom Holland’s fourth solo film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, arrived on July 31, 2026.

Animated and spin-off films

The Spider-Verse films are their own continuity and two of the best-reviewed Spider-Man films of any kind. Sony’s Venom films touch the MCU briefly too.

The best order to watch the Spider-Man movies

If you only care about the MCU: Civil War → Homecoming → Infinity War → Endgame → Far From Home → No Way Home → Brand New Day.

If you want No Way Home to land properly: watch the Raimi trilogy and both Amazing Spider-Man films first. Spider-Man 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 are the two that matter most.

If you want everything: release order, top to bottom. The three runs don’t overlap until 2021, so there’s no wrong way in.

Spoiler Spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home: tap to reveal

No Way Home brings Tobey Maguire’s and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men into the MCU alongside villains from their films, and it ends with the whole world forgetting Peter Parker, which is where Brand New Day picks up.
