- 2Deadpool 2Not MCU2018
- 3Deadpool & Wolverine2024
Ryan Reynolds spent years getting a faithful Deadpool film made after the version of the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) went badly wrong. Deadpool (2016) finally arrived R-rated, foul-mouthed and very aware it was a superhero movie, and it became one of the biggest R-rated films of its time.
After Disney bought Fox, Deadpool moved into the MCU. Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) is officially an MCU film, but it’s really a farewell to the Fox X-Men universe, and the jokes land harder if you’ve seen the first two Deadpool films and Logan.

Also worth watching
- Logan (2017): Watch before Deadpool & Wolverine, whose opening leans heavily on Logan.
- X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009): The infamous first Deadpool. Deadpool & Wolverine mocks it, so it helps to know what it’s mocking.
- Loki: Season 1 (2021): Explains the TVA, which runs the plot of Deadpool & Wolverine.
The best order to watch the Deadpool movies
Watch in release order: Deadpool → Deadpool 2 → Deadpool & Wolverine. If you have time, add Logan before the third film, and Loki Season 1 if you’ve never seen the TVA.
All three are rated R for strong violence and language, unlike the rest of the MCU. If you’re deciding whether they’re OK for a teenager, our parents’ guide covers the ratings. Gambit fans can follow the character in our Gambit watch order.
