Each Avengers film is the end point of a run of solo movies, which is why they hit so hard and also why they’re the worst place to start. The Avengers (2012) pulled together Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye for the first time. Infinity War and Endgame, shot back to back, close out a decade of storytelling and remain two of the highest-grossing films ever made.
The next pair, Doomsday and Secret Wars, do the same job for the Multiverse Saga, with Robert Downey Jr. back as Doctor Doom. The cast list mixes the Avengers, the Thunderbolts, the Fantastic Four and Fox’s X-Men.
