MCU Villains Ranked: The 15 Best Marvel Villains
Marvel's heroes get the posters, but the villains make the movies. Here are the 15 greatest MCU antagonists, ranked by menace, motive, and sheer watchability, updated through 2026.
How we ranked the villains
This is an editorial ranking: our opinion, argued case by case, not an average of critic or audience scores. Every title was judged on the same four things:
- Menace do you believe they could win, and does the film make you feel it?
- Motive a goal you can understand, even if you’d never agree with it.
- Performance how much the actor makes the role their own.
- Lasting impact how much they change the heroes and the MCU after they’re gone.
Who it’s for: fans who have seen most of the MCU and want a second opinion, or newcomers deciding what to prioritize. Ratings and ranks were last reviewed in October 2026; see our editorial standards for how we work.
The full ranking
- 1
Thanos
Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame
The gold standard: a decade of build-up, a villain convinced he was right, and a plan the heroes genuinely struggle to stop. Infinity War is still the MCU’s best villain showcase.
- 2
Loki
Thor, The Avengers, Thor: Ragnarok, Loki
From Thor’s jealous brother to the lead of his own timeline-bending series: the MCU’s greatest character arc.
- 3
Killmonger
The MCU’s most human villain: his anger was justified even when his methods weren’t. Michael B. Jordan makes every scene count.
- 4
Kingpin
Daredevil, Hawkeye, Echo, Daredevil: Born Again
Vincent D’Onofrio plays Fisk as a wounded, terrifying man-child, equal parts crime boss and broken heart. The rare TV villain who outshines most film ones.
- 5
Wenwu
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
A thousand-year-old warlord undone by grief, not greed. Tony Leung gave the MCU its most sympathetic antagonist, a father who couldn’t let go.
- 6
Hela
She destroyed Mjolnir with one hand and stole every scene. Blanchett understood the assignment: be the most fun thing in the movie.
- 7
Vulture
The MCU’s most relatable motive: a contractor screwed over by the Avengers’ cleanup crew. The car-scene reveal is all-timer tension.
- 8
Zemo
No powers, no army: just patience and a grudge. The only villain who actually broke the Avengers, using their own guilt against them.
- 9
Ultron
A chilling idea let down slightly by quippy execution, but Ultron’s core question, whether humanity deserves saving, haunts the MCU to this day.
- 10
Green Goblin
Dafoe returned after nearly 20 years and reminded everyone what a comic villain should feel like: unhinged, personal, genuinely scary.
- 11
Doctor Octopus
Spider-Man: No Way Home
Alfred Molina slips back into the role like he never left. His Doc Ock is proof the Raimi era understood pathos.
- 12
Agatha Harkness
WandaVision, Agatha All Along
Kathryn Hahn turned a nosy neighbor into one of Marvel’s most entertaining schemers, then got a whole series to keep scheming.
- 13
Gorr the God Butcher
Christian Bale was genuinely frightening: a grieving father turned god-killer. The film around him was divisive, but the performance wasn’t.
- 14
Kang the Conqueror
Loki, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
The villain the Multiverse Saga was built around before Marvel pivoted to Doctor Doom. Jonathan Majors’ first appearance, in Loki, is still a highlight.
- 15
Namor
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Not a monster but a king protecting his people, exactly as Wakanda protects hers. Regal, ruthless, and right.

FAQ
Who is the best MCU villain?
Thanos tops most rankings: a decade of build-up, and a coherent (if horrifying) ideology that drives all of Infinity War. Loki and Killmonger round out most fans’ top three.
Is Kang still the main MCU villain?
No. Marvel pivoted the Multiverse Saga away from Kang toward Doctor Doom, who headlines Avengers: Doomsday (2026). His last major appearance was Loki Season 2 in 2023.
Who is the villain in Avengers: Doomsday?
Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. He’s positioned as the saga-ending threat across Doomsday (2026) and Secret Wars (2027).
Are the Netflix villains MCU canon?
Yes. Kingpin and the Defenders saga are officially MCU canon as of 2024, so Wilson Fisk earns his spot on this list. See our canon explainer for the full story.
