Why it matters now

It's an interactive Marvel Studios story, built with ILM Immersive for Apple Vision Pro as a spin-off of the animated What If...? series. You don't just watch: you learn the mystic arts, cast spells with your hands and choose how the story ends.

About What If...? An Immersive Story

What If...? An Immersive Story is an interactive spin-off of Marvel Studios' animated What If...? series, released on May 30, 2024 for Apple Vision Pro. Marvel Studios made it with ILM Immersive in collaboration with Apple, and it runs about an hour. It mixes full virtual reality scenes with mixed reality moments where characters appear in your own room.

You play yourself. Wong recruits you, teaches you the mystic arts, and the Watcher sends you across the multiverse to gather the Infinity Stones and capture variants who have gone off course, including a Hela and the Collector. Hand gestures cast spells, and the choice you make at the end decides how the story finishes. Dave Bushore directed it from a script by David Dong and Phil McCarty, with series composer Laura Karpman returning and series director Bryan Andrews as consulting producer.

How to watch it

You need an Apple Vision Pro to play it, since it was made only for that headset. It launched as a free download on the visionOS App Store, so check the store for current availability. It isn't on Disney+ as a regular episode and isn't part of any MCU watch order, so treat it as a bonus after What If...? Season 2 or 3. Give yourself an uninterrupted hour, stand in a clear space, and expect it to feel more like a guided story than a game.
