Why it’s worth knowing about

Spike TV's short-lived continuation with Sticky Fingaz as Blade, a rare attempt to keep the franchise alive on television after Trinity stumbled.

About Blade: The Series

Krista Starr comes home to Detroit from the war in Iraq and finds that her twin brother has been killed. Digging into his death, she learns he was a "familiar," a human serving a vampire in the hope of being turned. Then she's turned herself by Marcus Van Sciver, a powerful member of the vampire House of Chthon. Blade recruits her to go undercover among the vampires, and Krista uses her new position to search for her brother's killer while Marcus works on a secret plan of his own.

David S. Goyer, who wrote Blade and Blade II, created the show for Spike with New Line Television and Marvel. Geoff Johns co-wrote the two-hour pilot and several episodes. Sticky Fingaz (credited as Kirk "Sticky" Jones) replaces Wesley Snipes as Blade, with Jill Wagner as Krista, Neil Jackson as Marcus and Jessica Gower as Chase. It ran for 13 episodes from June 28 to September 13, 2006. The premiere was Spike's most-watched original series debut, but ratings faded, reviews were mixed, and it was canceled after one season.

Good to know

How to watch it

Watch it after all three Blade films, since it continues from Blade: Trinity. Start with the two-hour pilot, House of Chthon, which sets up the season. Keep in mind that it ends after one season, so some threads are left unresolved. It has nothing to do with the MCU, and Sticky Fingaz plays a colder, quieter Blade than Wesley Snipes did.
