About Fantastic Four: World’s Greatest Heroes
World's Greatest Heroes is a fresh start for the team, with no ties to earlier cartoons. Doctor Doom is the main antagonist, and the rogues' gallery behind him is deep: the Mole Man, the Puppet Master, the Skrulls, Ronan the Accuser, Annihilus, Attuma, Diablo, Terminus, Impossible Man and the Frightful Four all turn up. Plenty of other Marvel heroes drop in too, including the Hulk, Iron Man, Ant-Man, Namor, She-Hulk and Squirrel Girl.
The show is an American-French co-production between Marvel Studios and MoonScoop. Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost developed it, Yost wrote it, Franck Michel directed and Noam Kaniel composed the music. Hiro Kanagawa voices Reed, Lara Gilchrist voices Sue, Christopher Jacot voices Johnny and Brian Dobson voices Ben. It ran for one season of 26 episodes between September 2006 and February 2010, airing on France's M6 and on Cartoon Network. Cartoon Network's US schedule was erratic and showed only 8 episodes, so American viewers didn't get the full run until Nicktoons picked it up in 2009.
Good to know
- Developers Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost also wrote the 2009 animated double feature Hulk Vs.
- Its angular, anime-influenced character designs set it apart from every earlier Fantastic Four cartoon.
- Peter Parker appears in a guest role as a photographer.
- Cosmic villains Ronan the Accuser, Annihilus and Terminus all appear in its single season.
How to watch it
This is a standalone series, so you can watch it any time without homework. It works well after the 2005 and 2007 live-action films if you want a lighter, faster-paced version of the team. The Doctor Doom episodes carry the most weight, and the guest-star episodes with the Hulk, Iron Man and She-Hulk are fun for spotting other corners of Marvel. Its bright, kid-friendly tone makes it a good pick for younger viewers new to the Fantastic Four.
