About The Incredible Hulk (1982)
This animated Hulk sticks close to the comics, starting with the Hulk's origin. Bruce Banner works at Gamma Base, an army base, and keeps trying to cure himself while General Thunderbolt Ross and the army hunt the Hulk. Rick Jones and Betty Ross are along for the ride, and recurring villains include Doctor Octopus, the Spymaster, the Leader, the Puppet Master and Hydra.
Marvel Productions made it, with David H. DePatie and Lee Gunther as executive producers. It aired on NBC from September 1982 to October 1983, sharing an hour with Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends under the banner The Incredible Hulk and the Amazing Spider-Man. It ran for just one season of 13 episodes. Bob Holt voices the Hulk, Michael Bell is Bruce Banner, Michael Horton is Rick Jones, B. J. Ward is Betty and Robert Ridgely is Ross.
Good to know
- "Enter: She-Hulk" introduces Bruce's cousin Jennifer Walters.
- In "Bruce Banner Unmasked," the army learns the Hulk's secret identity.
- Stan Lee narrates every episode.
- Unlike the live-action series, which renamed him David, this version keeps the comics' name, Bruce.
How to watch it
Watch this after the live-action series to see a version that sticks closer to the comics. It pairs well with Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, its NBC partner. With only 13 episodes it's quick, and "Enter: She-Hulk" is the key one for fans of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Fans of early-'80s Saturday-morning cartoons will enjoy it, and it shows how the Hulk was animated before the 1996 series.
