The Incredible Hulk: Season 2 (1978)
TV SeriesOptional
David Banner's cross-country search for a cure continues as reporter Jack McGee closes in, with the Hulk surfacing in small towns across America. This 1978 Marvel season was made outside Marvel Studios’ main MCU line-up, so it’s optional for the watch order and works fine on its own. At 16h 40m, it is free to watch with ads on Tubi in the US.

Why it’s worth knowing about
The show hit its stride: more Hulk-outs, the catchphrase era in full swing, and stronger standalone stories than the first season.
About The Incredible Hulk: Season 2
Season two is where the show finds its full stride. It runs to 22 episodes, from September 22, 1978, to May 25, 1979, and McGee is more central to the chase than before. Banner's anger still triggers the change, but several episodes explore his attempts to master it, and the season tries bigger, more emotional stories. The best known is "Married," a two-hour special that won the show its only Emmy. In the two-part "Mystery Man," Banner has amnesia and ends up stranded with McGee after a plane crash.
Bill Bixby, Lou Ferrigno and Jack Colvin return, with Kenneth Johnson still in charge for CBS. Production had a sad turn: Ted Cassidy, who had voiced the Hulk since the first pilot, died in January 1979. "The Confession" was his last episode, and Charles Napier took over the Hulk's voice starting with "The Quiet Room."
Good to know
- Mariette Hartley won the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her guest role in "Married," which aired in two parts in syndication.
- "Another Path" is the episode where Banner first calls his alter ego "the Hulk."
- Hulk co-creator Jack Kirby makes a cameo in "No Escape."
- "The Disciple" was a backdoor pilot for a Rick Springfield series that never went ahead.
How to watch it
Watch this right after season 1. If you only have time for a few episodes, make it "Married" for the emotional high point, the two-part "Mystery Man" for the Banner and McGee dynamic, and "No Escape" to spot Jack Kirby. Banner's attempts to control the change here lead into the more experimental stories of seasons 3 and 4.
