Why it’s worth knowing about
Danny Rand and Colleen Wing face Davos. Short and better received than the first season.
About Iron Fist: Season 2
Season two picks up after The Defenders, with Danny trying to fill the gap Matt Murdock left behind. He has moved into Colleen Wing's Chinatown dojo and is fighting street crime as a gang war breaks out between the Golden Tigers and the Hatchets. His old K'un-Lun rival, Davos, believes the Iron Fist is his by right and teams up with Joy Meachum to take it. Meanwhile, Mary Walker, a mysterious newcomer with a past as an operative in Sokovia, gets close to Danny.
M. Raven Metzner took over as showrunner from Scott Buck, and the season was cut to 10 episodes, released on September 7, 2018. Finn Jones, Jessica Henwick, Tom Pelphrey, Jessica Stroup and Sacha Dhawan return, Simone Missick joins as Misty Knight, and Alice Eve plays Mary. Clayton Barber, who had coordinated fights on Black Panther, was brought in to fix the action. Reviews were still mixed, at 55% on Rotten Tomatoes, but critics saw it as a big step up. Netflix canceled the series on October 12, 2018.
Good to know
- Its Rotten Tomatoes score jumped from season 1's 20% to about 55%, one of the biggest season-to-season improvements of its time.
- Each episode is named after a comic issue Danny Rand appeared in.
- Misty Knight and Colleen Wing team up here as the Daughters of the Dragon.
- Alice Eve's Mary Walker is the series' version of Typhoid Mary, a character with dissociative identity disorder.
How to watch it
Watch this after The Defenders, which sets up Danny's promise to protect the city. It's a better watch than season 1, with tighter episodes and better fights, and Colleen and Misty's partnership is the highlight. Fans of street-level martial arts stories and anyone who liked Henwick in season 1 should enjoy it.
