About Runaways: Season 2
Season 2 picks up with the kids on the run and framed for murder, while their parents scramble to find them. The six move into an abandoned mansion they call the hostel, under Griffith Park, and start to work as a team, using their powers to bring down the Pride. Karolina learns more about her alien heritage, and Jonah becomes a more direct threat as he tries to dig up his buried ship.
Hulu released all 13 episodes at once on December 21, 2018. The core cast returns, and Julian McMahon is now a series regular as Jonah. New faces include Jan Luis Castellanos as Topher, a street kid with super strength, Clarissa Thibeaux as the shape-shifting alien Xavin, and Ajiona Alexus as Livvie. The showrunners promised a faster season with more danger, and Nico and Karolina's relationship became its emotional center. Critics gave it 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, though some found the plotting formulaic.
Good to know
- Nico and Karolina's relationship, which began at the end of season 1, drives much of the season.
- Xavin, a fan-favorite comic character, is introduced here before becoming a main character in season 3.
- Molly sets out on her own as a solo crimefighter for part of the season.
- It's three episodes longer than season 1, at 13 episodes.
How to watch it
Watch season 1 first, since this season picks up right where it left off. Season 2 is where the kids act as a real team, so it has more powers in action than the first season. The Jonah and Gibborim storyline is the backbone, and it sets up the magic-heavy final season. If you liked the first season's family drama, this one plays more like a found-family story.
