About X-Men '97: Season 3
Season 3 is the next chapter of the X-Men '97 revival, following season 2's time-scattered fight against Apocalypse, which aired in summer 2026. As of October 2026, Marvel hasn't announced story details, episode count or a premiere date beyond a 2027 target. Producers have said new seasons should come out about once a year from here on.
This is the first season developed entirely without creator Beau DeMayo. Matthew Chauncey, who wrote for What If...? and was head writer on its final season, was hired in July 2024 to write and executive produce season 3. Brad Winderbaum has said most of the creative team stayed in place after DeMayo left. The season was already renewed and in production by late 2025, when Winderbaum said talks about seasons 4 and 5 had begun.
Good to know
- Matthew Chauncey is the new lead writer, having already supervised script revisions on season 2.
- DeMayo had planned to focus each season on a different character, with Gambit as the focus of season 3. It hasn't been confirmed whether that plan survived.
- Marvel has planned yearly releases, with season 3 aimed at 2027 and season 4 at 2028.
How to watch it
Catch up on seasons 1 and 2 before this one arrives, since the show is heavily serialized and each season builds on the previous one. X-Men: The Animated Series is still the best background if you have time. There's no confirmed premiere date or episode list yet. Chauncey's What If...? episodes show what he brings as a writer.
