Who is Mystique?
Mystique came out of the Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum era, arriving as a cameo in Ms. Marvel #16 in 1978 and getting her full reveal two issues later. Her real name is Raven Darkholme, and her power is total physical mimicry: she can wear anyone's face and voice, which makes her the X-Men's most useful liar. Her own form is blue-skinned, red-haired and yellow-eyed. She founded the Brotherhood of Mutants, led it, and later reshaped it into the government-sanctioned Freedom Force.
Rebecca Romijn played her across the original Fox trilogy, in X-Men in 2000, X2 in 2003 and X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006, mostly silent, mostly blue, mostly terrifying. The role was recast for the prequel timeline, where Jennifer Lawrence took over as a younger Raven in X-Men: First Class in 2011, then X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. Morgan Lily appeared as a child version. The two performances are deliberately different people, not a continuation.
Her last Fox appearance was Dark Phoenix in 2019. That film landed after Disney completed its purchase of 21st Century Fox in March 2019, which ended the Fox X-Men line and moved the character under Marvel Studios. There is a confirmed plan: Rebecca Romijn is part of the announced cast of Avengers: Doomsday, opening December 18, 2026, returning to the role she originated on screen.
