The 6 titles below run in story order, starting with Daredevil: Season 2 and, for now, ending with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Frank Castle’s war runs from the Defenders saga to his own Special Presentation.
Set aside about 39h 16m for the full list of 1 film, 4 series seasons and 1 special or short, which came out from 2016 to 2026.
Who is The Punisher?
The Punisher was written as a one-off problem for Spider-Man. Gerry Conway created him with artists John Romita Sr. and Ross Andru, and he arrived as an antagonist in The Amazing Spider-Man #129, cover dated February 1974. Frank Castle, born Castiglione in Queens, is a Marine veteran whose wife and children were murdered after the family witnessed a mob hit in Central Park. The killers bought alibis and were never prosecuted, so Castle went after them himself and never stopped. The readers kept him, and he became a fixture.
He has been filmed repeatedly: Dolph Lundgren in 1989, Thomas Jane in 2004 and Ray Stevenson in Punisher: War Zone in 2008. The version that stuck is Jon Bernthal's, introduced in season two of Daredevil in 2016 and given his own Netflix series, created by Steve Lightfoot, which ran two seasons of 13 episodes from November 2017 to January 2019 before Netflix canceled it. Season one follows Castle into a conspiracy behind his family's deaths; season two drags him off the road and back into the work.
Bernthal returned in Daredevil: Born Again in 2025. He then co-wrote and starred in The Punisher: One Last Kill, a 51-minute Marvel Television Special Presentation released on Disney+ on May 12, 2026, directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, with Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page and Judith Light as crime boss Ma Gnucci. Castle carried straight on into Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026, Battle Van included.

The Punisher FAQ
Is the Netflix Punisher series canon in the MCU?
It was always described as set in the MCU, and it moved to Disney+ in March 2022. When Echo premiered in January 2024, the series was added to the official MCU Disney+ timeline, with season one placed after Spider-Man: Homecoming and season two between Thor: Ragnarok and Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Is Jon Bernthal still playing the Punisher?
Yes. He returned in Daredevil: Born Again in 2025, headlined The Punisher: One Last Kill on Disney+ on May 12, 2026, and appears as Frank Castle in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, released July 31, 2026.
Is the Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again season 3?
Season three is set to premiere in March 2027 as the final season, running eight episodes. Bernthal is not listed among the returning cast. He also sat out season two because of The Punisher: One Last Kill and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
What order should I watch The Punisher in?
Go top to bottom. For The Punisher, story order and release order are the same, so there’s nothing to rearrange. Start with Daredevil: Season 2 (2016) and work forward.
How many titles feature The Punisher?
6 so far (1 film, 4 series seasons and 1 special or short), released from 2016 to 2026, covering Phases 5 to 6 of the MCU. That’s about 39h 16m of viewing.
How long does it take to watch every The Punisher appearance?
About 39h 16m for all 6 released titles. At two hours an evening, that’s roughly 20 sittings.
Do I need to watch the whole MCU to follow The Punisher?
No. These 6 titles tell the character’s own story. None of them are required for the main MCU story, so treat the list as optional viewing.
