Marvel in 2019
Avengers: Endgame opened on April 26, 2019, with a record $1.2 billion worldwide first weekend and ended at $2.799 billion. It was the highest-grossing film ever from July 2019 until Avatar passed it in March 2021. It closed out the Infinity Saga, and Stan Lee made his final cameo. Captain Marvel came out earlier, in March, and became the first female-led superhero film to make $1 billion.
Disney's purchase of 21st Century Fox closed on March 20, which put the X-Men, Deadpool and the Fantastic Four under the same owner as Marvel. Dark Phoenix, the last of Fox's X-Men prequels, lost an estimated $133 million. Spider-Man: Far From Home finished the Infinity Saga.
