Why it matters now

Teamed the Hulk with Doctor Strange months before the Sorcerer Supreme's live-action debut, a Halloween-timed animated feature leaning into Marvel's horror-monster corner.

About Hulk: Where Monsters Dwell

Hulk: Where Monsters Dwell is a Halloween monster mash. On Halloween night, Nightmare's Dream Dimension starts spilling monsters into the real world. Doctor Strange teams up with the Hulk and the Howling Commandos, a team of monster characters, and the group heads into the Dream Dimension to stop Nightmare at the source.

Marvel Animation made the film, with Mitch Schauer directing and Marty Isenberg and Dave McDermott writing. Fred Tatasciore voices the Hulk, Jesse Burch is Bruce Banner, Liam O'Brien is Doctor Strange and Matthew Waterson is Nightmare. The Howling Commandos include Warwolf, Man-Thing, Nina Price (Vampire by Night) and Jasper Sitwell. It premiered at San Diego Comic-Con in 2016 and was released digitally on October 21, 2016. It runs 75 minutes. Reviewers called it a fun, kid-friendly Halloween film rather than a deep story; /Film called it an "absolute blast."

Good to know

How to watch it

This works best as an October watch. It follows the Disney XD Marvel shows, so it fits after Avengers Assemble or Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., but you don't need either to follow it. Fans of Doctor Strange and Marvel's monster characters will get the most from it, and it pairs well with Werewolf by Night (2022) for a Marvel Halloween double bill. At 75 minutes, it's an easy pick for families with kids who like spooky but not scary stories.
