Why it matters now

The animated adaptation of the beloved comic arc, and the direct inspiration for Thor: Ragnarok's Sakaar gladiator sequences.

About Planet Hulk

Planet Hulk is an animated movie that adapts Greg Pak and Carlo Pagulayan's 2006–2007 comic storyline. The Hulk is judged too dangerous for Earth and launched into space. His ship crashes on Sakaar, a world ruled by the tyrannical Red King. The Hulk is enslaved and forced to fight as a gladiator, and he gradually earns the loyalty of his fellow fighters, a band that becomes the Warbound.

It was released on DVD, Blu-ray and digital on February 2, 2010, as the seventh Marvel Animated Feature from Marvel and Lionsgate. Sam Liu directed from a script by Greg Johnson, and it runs 81 minutes. Rick D. Wasserman voices the Hulk, with Lisa Ann Beley as the warrior Caiera, Mark Hildreth as the Red King and Kevin Michael Richardson as the rock creature Korg. Reviewers at MTV and Cinema Crazed called it a fun, well-voiced adventure. Common Sense Media warned parents about the violence and innuendo.

Good to know

How to watch it

Watch it after Thor: Ragnarok if you want to see where the MCU's Sakaar came from. The animated version is darker and much more violent. It doesn't need any setup beyond knowing the Hulk. It's made for fans of gladiator stories and the Hulk at his angriest. The violence makes it better for older kids and adults.
