Marvel in 2010

Iron Man 2 arrived on May 7, 2010, and spent much of its running time setting up a bigger universe. Scarlett Johansson debuted as Black Widow, Don Cheadle replaced Terrence Howard as Rhodey, and a post-credits scene, directed by Kenneth Branagh during the Thor shoot, pointed straight at the next film. Critics found it weaker than the first film, but it outgrossed it with $623.9 million.

This was Marvel's first full year under Disney, and the effects showed. In October, Disney bought the distribution rights to The Avengers and Iron Man 3 from Paramount, and Disney XD premiered The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. The direct-to-video Planet Hulk adapted the comic storyline that Thor: Ragnarok drew on seven years later.
