About Marvel Zombies: Season 1
Marvel Zombies picks up five years after the What If...? episode "What If... Zombies?!" The virus has overrun Earth, the Avengers included, and a small group of survivors has to cross a ruined world while dodging superpowered zombies. This first run is a four-episode miniseries, and it is the first Marvel Studios Animation show rated TV-MA.
Bryan Andrews created it with head writer Zeb Wells, and Andrews served as showrunner and director. Stellar Creative Lab animated it in the cel-shaded style of What If...?, and it premiered on Disney+ on September 24, 2025. The voice cast includes many MCU actors, among them Iman Vellani, Dominique Thorne, Hailee Steinfeld, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Simu Liu, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Rudd. Critics gave it mixed reviews, with a 66% Rotten Tomatoes score.
Good to know
- Blade Knight, a blend of Blade and Moon Knight, is voiced by Todd Williams after Mahershala Ali could not reprise the role.
- It began as a film idea and became a series partly so Spider-Man could be included.

- Instead of a second season, the story continues in three Marvel Zombies specials, one a year from 2027 to 2029.
How to watch it
Watch the What If...? Season 1 episode "What If... Zombies?!" first, since this story continues straight from it. Knowing recent MCU shows like Ms. Marvel, Ironheart and Hawkeye helps, because many of the survivors come from them. With four episodes, it fits into one evening. It is meant for adults, so expect plenty of gore. If the original zombie episode was your favorite What If...?, this is the payoff.
