Mutant X (2001)
TV SeriesOptional
Genetically engineered mutants, once test subjects in covert government experiments, track down and protect others like them. This 2001 Marvel series was made outside Marvel Studios’ main MCU line-up, so it’s optional for the watch order and works fine on its own. It has 66 episodes, about 48h 24m in all.

Why it’s worth knowing about
It's a Marvel-licensed show that 20th Century Fox sued for being too close to the X-Men, which makes it an odd footnote in Marvel's screen history. It has no link to Marvel's Mutant X comic.
About Mutant X
Mutant X is a live-action syndicated series that ran for three seasons and 66 episodes, from October 6, 2001, to May 17, 2004. Created by Avi Arad, it was made under a Marvel license by Fireworks Entertainment, Marvel Studios, Global Television Network and Tribune Entertainment. Despite the name, it has no connection to the Mutant X comic book.
The team are "new mutants" with genetically engineered powers, former test subjects who now find and protect others like them. The cast includes Forbes March, Victoria Pratt, Lauren Lee Smith, Victor Webster and John Shea. The show was described as the X-Men meets The Matrix, which is roughly what Fox objected to. In April 2001, Fox sued Marvel, Tribune and Fireworks, saying it was being marketed as an X-Men replacement; Fox and Marvel settled in March 2003. The series was canceled abruptly in 2004 after Fireworks was dismantled, leaving it on an unresolved cliffhanger.

How to watch it
Mutant X stands entirely on its own. It isn't connected to the X-Men films, the animated shows or the MCU, so watch it whenever you like. Know going in that it never got a proper ending: the final episode leaves things on a cliffhanger after the sudden cancellation. At 66 episodes it's a real commitment, so try the first few to see whether early-2000s syndicated sci-fi is your thing.
