Marvel in 2021
The MCU came back on Disney+ first. WandaVision premiered on January 15, 2021, as the first series made by Marvel Studios and the start of Phase Four. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If...? and Hawkeye followed. Loki's first season ended by setting up the Multiverse Saga.
Theaters reopened gradually. Black Widow opened in July in theaters and on Disney+ at the same time, which led Scarlett Johansson to sue Disney in a case that was settled within two months. Shang-Chi followed in September, the first Marvel Studios film with an Asian director and a mostly Asian cast. Eternals became the first MCU film with a rotten Rotten Tomatoes score. In December, Spider-Man: No Way Home opened up the multiverse and grossed $1.92 billion.
